When it comes time for spring cleaning, there’s one item in your Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, home that you shouldn’t overlook, and that’s your HVAC system. Spring is a great time to maintain your HVAC system before the hot summer months hit. Use our HVAC spring cleaning checklist to prepare your system for the summer heat.
Change the Air Filters
To keep the air in your home clean and healthy, it’s important to change your system’s air filters regularly. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the frequency of cleaning and changing your filters.
Clean the Condensate Drain
This plastic or metal tray collects the moisture produced by your air conditioner coil. Any water that collects here must be drained properly to avoid damaging your system. Check that the hose that connects the tray to the drain is in the correct position and isn’t leaking.
Adjust the Thermostat
A programmable thermostat sets your system to the ideal temperature throughout the day and is great for saving energy. If you have never tried a programmable or smart thermostat, think about having one or more installed as part of your spring HVAC overhaul.
Clean the Outdoor Area
During the winter months, dirt, leaves, and other debris are likely to build up around the exterior HVAC unit. One of your spring cleaning tasks should be to clear away this debris and cut back any brushes and plants near the unit.
Turn on Your Air Conditioner
Once you’ve completed the cleaning checklist, it’s time to turn on your unit for a test run to check for any issues. If the unit is not cooling effectively, first check the thermostat settings. If that’s not the problem, your system may need a tuning or more coolant, in which case you must call a professional.
